FM8 is Native instruments version of DX7 that uses FM synthesis like DX7.

FM8 is a legendary FM synthesizer and perhaps the first FM soft synth, based on FM synthesis, on the marked. It started as a Native Instruments FM7 model and FM8 is still a potent FM synth today.

The DX7 classic synth

The DX7 was a Yamaha classic digital synth based on FM synthesis. FM8 is DX7 made easier with some add ons. 
DX7 is famous for it FM Bass sound that sounds very different from the Minimoog and Prophet bases.
